Beer Review – Magic Hat Heart of Darkness

One of my favorite moments is the reaction of the bartender to a pull that clearly doesn’t get called that often. “God this is dark, hence the name I guess.”

Honestly one of the reasons I selected this beer off the menu was because of the oatmeal stout description.  I love oatmeal stouts. Something about the substance not only of the beer, but of the description. Oatmeal sounds good and filling and healthy and rich.

Well, I can assure you this, this beer is as rich in appearance as I have seen. The name Heart Of Darkness must not have taken long to come up with. It has a thin but stable light tan head, and is all but black in the glass.

If you are looking for a Guiness type beer, try again. Even though it finished clean, the first taste was bitter on the edges. And it is definitely heavy.

Clearly a just have one beer.  If you like stouts give it a try, but certainly not a beer with universal appeal.
