Coming together over craft beer.
Recently I attended a party at a neighbors house that was somewhat of a family affair. It was a great night for sure, but what I thought was cool was how excited he was to take me outside and show me the selection of beer he had purchased. It is nice that the days of ‘the kegs in the corner’ have given way to individual overviews of what beers were purchased and why. It is not that we had an intellectual conversation about beer, but that we connected over it. I was just as excited as he was to see what he thought would be good beer for this occasion.
Beer seems to me to be inherently more social than wine, which is why it is so popular here in the USA. I don’t think that as many people who could think about talking about beer as a social activity. Talking and learning about beer is not only enlightening and fun, but healthy for our relationships with each other and with beer itself.
So, since I am.sure your are wondering, the beer I tried today include :
Sam Adams Winter Lager – a good winter brew in true Sam Adams fashion.
Harpoon Chocolate Stout – this was really good, better than I expected.
There were a few others, but I didn’t get to try them all. It was a good night with good friends and good beer. The next time can’t come too soon.
