Beer Review – Old School Brewery Rendezvous Porter

Rendezvous Porter

Recently I saw this beer in a silent auction gift basket that was donated for a charity event I was organizing.  I had never had anything from Old School House before, so when given the chance I purchased a bottle of my own to share with some friends.

This is interesting. Not a bad beer really, but it was hyped to me and I am not sure I get that. I was told that one of the experts at Wine Library said it is the perfect porter for the contractor type beer drinker.  A blue color beer.  I am hard pressed to disagree.

According to their website:

A Robust American Porter with plenty of caramel and chocolate layers to balance the smooth hop finish.

That is a simple description for what I felt was a rather pedestrian beer.  Not a very strong aroma, but the pour was impressive for sure.  Nice thick off white head sits atop a dark and rich body.  Smooth blend of malty and chocolate flavors and a hint of hops, but nothing dominates and it actually comes together pretty well.  I can certainly see, and agree, with describing this as a blue collar beer.

I tried their Imperial IPA and it didn’t floor me…don’t think I’ll be breaking down doors to try this one either.

Yea, it was fine, but pedestrian. I didn’t regret drinking it, but can’t say I’d rush back.
