Coming together over craft beer.
A few weeks back I heard about this beer from a very local brewery here in New Jersey called Carton. I think is was from a twitter post that I first started to see the buzz, I just got an itch to try it. As I was reading about it, something about a heavy milk stout with only 4.0% abv was intriguing. So, I sought it out thanks to the help of beermenus.com, and gave this true session beer a try.
I don’t even know where to start in reviewing this. First, it was served from a hand pump and had a head that was not just think and persistent for the entire time I was drinking it, but it had a rough texture to it that was, well, interesting. No real aroma to speak of. So, it looks good, how will it taste?
The complete lack of alcohol taste is almost disorienting. There was also a lack of any meaningful hops flavor as well. Its like a cross between a Guiness and a milk shake. I wouldn’t say I am sipping as much as guzzling it down, kinda like I am literally drinking a glass of milk. I am always on the look out for good session beer. I mean, in a quest that is contrary to many craft beer enthusiasts feelings, I try to find low abv beers that are really good. I wouldn’t say this is really good, but I would say it is rare to find a solid session stout like this. I guess I just wish it tasted a little more like beer. If you are one of the luck few people in New York or New Jersey who get this or other beers from Carton, I would definitely suggest you try it. It is unique, interesting, but not overwhelming in anyway. Have one. Better yet, have two.
